Sandy CC has a proud history
of playing cricket in East Bedfordshire dating back many decades with our most
successful period being the late sixties and early seventies when we featured
in some of the most famous cup finals of the generation. During that period,
The Millman Cup, Hospital Cup and East Beds Shield were all won with a much
renowned and revered side under the captaincy of Richard Banks and Ted Smith
based at "The Rec" on Bedford Road.
Sandy Cricket Club are now fortunate to boast one of the best pitches for miles around at our Sunderland Road Recreation Ground home, where the club uses the Jenkins Sports Pavilion as its home base, which features excellent changing facilities and an electronic scoreboard.
In 2014, Sandy will play Saturday cricket in the Beds Invitation Saturday Cricket League Division 2 and Sunday cricket in the Bedfordshire County Cricket League Division Four.
During the winter months, Sandy participate in the Bedfordshire Indoor League.
Within our club, we have a major focus on youth development and in 2014 will have teams competing at under 10, under 12, under 14 & under 16 age groups of the Bedfordshire Youth League.
We are one of the few clubs
in the local area who provide junior coaching sessions throughout all 12 months
of the year. In the winter months the sessions are run in the Barnfield Sandy
Academy Sports Hall, and during the summer we use either the cricket outdoor
nets at Barnfield Sandy Academy or Sunderland Road Recreation Ground.
If you are a new player to the area or would be interested in joining a club with such outstanding facilities, please contact Pete Gurney on 01767 681211 or 07919 241096.
